Becoming a Mental Health First Aider
1 in 5 Australians will experience a mental health problem in any given year. That means that every person is likely to know someone who is experiencing a mental health problem, whether that is a family member, a friend or colleague. In fact, mental illness is now said to affect every Australian either directly or indirectly.
Our mental health first aid program will provide participants with accreditation as Mental Health First Aiders, in a similar vein to the traditional First Aid for physical injury. Participants will learn to better recognise the signs and symptoms of mental health problems in the workplace. They will leave with skills to appropriate handle conversations with people that are experiencing mental health problems and also to respond in a mental health crisis situation. This program forms a strong foundation for a culture of wellbeing in the workplace.
What to expect
Our courses teach participants about the signs and symptoms of mental health literacy and teach the practical skills needed to support someone experiencing a mental health problem, experiencing a worsening of an existing mental health problem or in a mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves.
Mental Health First Aid training course participants also learn about the types of help and supports available and how to help someone access the support they need.
